Frequently Asked Questions

A concealed carry permit is a card that permits you to carry a handgun concealed on your person or in your car (when you are in your car) for the purposes of self-defense, hunting, target shooting and any other lawful purpose.
Please note that it is currently legally required to carry a registered handgun to its respective owner (the permit holder) in New York City and in New York state. We’re currently suing to remove this requirement.
As a New York state or New York City resident, a concealed carry permit is currently the only legal way to carry a handgun on your person. If the application seems daunting; you need assistance with the process; or you need to obtain your NYS 18 hour training certification, you can purchase our application services here.
-
Previously, this used to be limited to two handguns. However, recently with NYC's recent rule change you may now own as many as you want as long as you obtain only one (1) every ninety (90) days.
-
A premise permit qualifies you to possess a registered handgun at home, to hunt (with a hunting license) and to the range.
You may also bring it unloaded, to other locations you may lawfully possess it. For example, if you have a PA concealed carry permit, you may drive with the gun in your trunk, unloaded and locked up to PA.
Then, you may load and carry it.
If you’re interested in applying for a premise permit to legally obtain a handgun in the home for home-defense, check out our premise permit application service.
-
A rifle/shotgun permit allows you to possess registered rifles and shotguns (and ammunition for said respective firearms) within the 5 boroughs of New York City.
Please note that it is currently required to register rifles and shotguns in New York City.
If you’re interested in applying for a rifle/shotgun permit to legally obtain a rifles and/or shotguns in the home for home-defense, you can purchase our rifle/shotgun application service.

Generally speaking, any law-abiding citizen, over the age of 21, residing in NY with a clean record and an ok driving history will qualify for a concealed carry permit. If your record is not perfect, or you have questions, that’s also ok. Reach out prior to purchasing and we’ll let you know if it’s possible.

To qualify for a NYC or NYS concealed carry permit, you are required to complete an application (NYC application is online through the NYPD portal), and some supporting documentation.
Some of that documentation includes:
Four references
NYS 18 hour training certificate
Your training certificate will be issued after completing 18 total hours of training (16 hours of in-class training and 2 hours of range time).
Our NYS 18 hour training certificate is the primary service we provide, as well as providing assistance with filling out applications.
-
Whichever application we are assisting you with, we help you fill out the entire application, making sure everything is as perfect as possible before submission. This ensures you don’t run into any issues.
After we complete your application, you upload your documents to the NYPD portal and pay the application fee. After paying the fee, the portal will recognize the payment and update your status to “submitted.”
Then, you wait for a fingerprinting appointment and interview appointment. Once you receive your interview, we’ll guide you through it.

NYPD is currently charging a $340.00 fee for either a Concealed Carry or Premise permit. They also charge $140.00 for a Rifle/Shotgun permit.
There is also an $88.25 one time fingerprinting fee.
We recommend applying for the Rifle/Shotgun permit application with either the CCW or premise permit to make this cost worth it to you! While the NYPD fees are high, your purchases support our lawsuits that will eventually bring the cost of applying lower.
New York City permits expire and need to be renewed. This means you will need to pay the above fees every three years to the NYPD.

NYS requires 16 hours of in-class training, and 2 hours of live fire to qualify for a concealed carry permit.
Our class is a private class where you can, for a fee, stay at home to do the classroom time. We arrive at your home, plug in our computer to your TV, and run a private training session where we focus on making sure you understand the laws and safety of operating a handgun in NY safely.
After which, we drive to the range either in our car or yours and you qualify with one of our handguns.
-
No. We will provide ammunition and a firearm for your training for NY.
For private one on one training, we provide eye and ear protection to use during the shooting qualification.
-
NJ requires you to have your own gun for the CCW training.

No, you cannot.
You must turn your medical marijuana card in, and it must be expired for at least a year to qualify for a permit to carry (or otherwise own or touch any firearms or ammunition in the United States).
Please note this stands true even though New York state legalized marijuana for medicinal and recreational use.

We’re not lawyers, but we’re firearm instructors who have a deep understanding of the over-complicated penal law of New York (and the Admin laws and Rules of NYC) that governs the issuance of firearm permits.
